For a kitchen, one of the most helpful items is to have a feel for what appliances you will hope to fit in your kitchen. This does not mean exact model numbers, rather details like – what size refrigerator works for you? How many burners you would like? Would you like more than one oven? Would a undercounter beverage refrigerator be helpful for your lifestyle? 

For a bathroom, there are other questions to consider -  are hoping to have more than one sink? Would you like a tub? Are the tub and shower separate items or combined?  Do you need space to store linens in the bathroom or is there another place in home?

These details do not have to be definite, but things your designer can help you navigate through when final decisions are being made.
